[Archived] City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services for the 2015 Thanksgiving Holiday, November 26-27

All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Resource Recovery: Residential trash and recycling will be collected on the regularly scheduled day during the week of November 23, including Thanksgiving Day, November 26. On Thanksgiving Day, trash and recycling collection will begin at 6 a.m., in order to clear routes early for the Annual Turkey Trot.

Animal Shelter: The Vola Lawson Animal Shelter will be closed on November 26. 

Health Facilities: The Alexandria Health Department (4480 King St.) and the Flora Krause Casey Health Center (1200 N. Howard St.) will close at noon on Wednesday, November 25, and remain closed on November 26 and 27. The Teen Wellness Center at T.C. Williams High School (3330 King St.) will be closed on November 26 and 27.

Historic Alexandria: All City of Alexandria museums will be closed on November 26. On Friday, November 27, the Alexandria Black History Museum and the Friendship Firehouse Museum will be closed; the Alexandria Archaeology Museum will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Gadsby’s Tavern Museum and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and The Lyceum and the Fort Ward Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the child protective services hotline at 703.746.5800; the domestic violence hotline at 703.746.4911; the emergency services for mental health or substance abuse crisis hotline at 703.746.3401; the adult protective services hotline at 1.888.832.3858, and the sexual assault hotline at 703.683.7273.

Libraries: All Alexandria Library branches will be closed on November 26 and 27.

Parking:
 The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on November 26 and 27. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces, and does not permit parking in any location normally prohibited (for example, no parking zones, loading zones, or spaces for persons with disabilities).

Recreation Centers: All City of Alexandria recreation centers, including the Chinquapin Recreation Center, will be closed on November 26. On November 27, the Chinquapin Recreation Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  All other recreation centers will be closed on November 27.

Schools: All Alexandria City Public Schools will be closed from Wednesday, November 25, through Friday, November 27.

State Offices: The Circuit Court will be closed on November 26 and 27. The General District Court, and the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will close at noon on November 25, and will remain closed on November 26 and 27. The Department of Motor Vehicles office at 2681 Mill Road will be closed November 26 and 27.

Transit: Alexandria Transit Company (DASH), bus service will not operate on Thursday, November 26, and will operate on a regular weekday schedule on Friday, November 27. On November 26, the free King Street Trolley will operate on its regular schedule, running every 10-15 minutes from 10 a.m. to midnight. On Friday, November 27, trolley service will begin operating at 6 a.m., in support of the Old Town Black Friday Sale, and will run every 10-15 minutes until midnight
