[Archived] City of Alexandria Seeks Holiday Sharing Sponsors for Children, Families, Seniors in Need

For Immediate Release: November 10, 2015

The Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) invites the public to make the 2015 holiday season brighter for the most vulnerable members of our community -- low-income families, foster children, seniors and residents with disabilities.

Through the annual Holiday Sharing program, sponsors purchase gifts for eligible families and individuals, which are distributed by DCHS staff and volunteers. Gifts of household necessities, clothing, toys, and gift cards help ensure that no Alexandria residents are left without during the holidays.

Volunteers have already registered 739 families in need of assistance. Last year, we assisted 715 families, 187 seniors and persons with disabilities, and nearly 100 children in foster care. We distributed thousands of donated items and $14,000 of gift certificates and grocery cards. We could not have done this without the generosity of the individuals and groups that registered as sponsors. Please join with your neighbors and friends to make a difference this season.
