For Immediate Release: November 10, 2015
Westbound Duke Street will be limited to one lane of traffic between Van Dorn Street and I-395, beginning Friday, November 13, at 9 p.m., through Sunday, November 15, at 9 a.m. Based on normal traffic patterns, the closure is expected to cause significant delays to westbound traffic if motorists do not plan ahead and use alternate routes to travel across the city. Landmark Mall will be accessible via eastbound Duke Street, and westbound motorists are encouraged to use the Van Dorn Street entrance.
This road work is part of the ongoing Duke Street Reconstruction Project, which reconstructs a major roadway; adds curbs, gutters, and accessible pedestrian ramps; and modifies the traffic island. By closing two lanes of the westbound road for 36 hours this weekend, this part of the work will take much less time than if only one lane at a time were closed.
In addition to traditional means, the City is informing the public of the lane closures via electronic message signs in the project area and automated phone calls to the residents and businesses most likely to be affected. Motorists are also advised to monitor radio, television, and online traffic information sources to determine the status of road work. This weekend’s scheduled closure may be postponed if weather conditions are unfavorable for pouring concrete.
