For Immediate Release: July 10, 2015
In June, City Council created the Ad Hoc Fort Ward Management Plan Implementation Monitoring Group to assist in monitoring the implementation of the Fort Ward Park and Museum Area Management Plan approved by Council on January 24. The Monitoring Group will comprise a diverse group of City residents with a variety of interests. The group will consist of 11 members, as outlined in Council Resolution Number 2677.
The membership of the Monitoring Group will include one “at large”
representative who has shown knowledge and keen interest in Fort Ward. Per the
resolution, the City Manager appoints this member based on a call for
nominations publicized to the community. The City Manager is seeking
nominations for the “at-large” representative of the Alexandria community to
serve on the Monitoring Group. Nominations should be sent to Julie Fuerth at julie.fuerth@alexandriava.gov
by July 20.
The Monitoring Group will be staffed by the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, the Office of Historic Alexandria, and the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services, with other departmental resources brought in as needed. The first meeting of the Monitoring Group is anticipated for late summer 2015. The group will meet on an ad hoc basis but no less that quarterly.
The June 3 staff report to City Council recommending establishment of this Monitoring Group provides background information regarding the charge of the new Monitoring Group.
