For Immediate Release: April 23, 2015

The City of Alexandria invites the public to the third annual Building Safety Month Kick-Off Event on Friday, May 1 in Market Square (301 King St.), from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Building Safety Month, a nationally recognized event, celebrates the best practices that keep places where we live, work and play safe. This free event will include vendors from the local building community, exhibits from multiple City departments, food, and fun!

The kick-off event, which includes a cookout and the presentation of a proclamation by Mayor William D. Euille, will showcase new and innovative products and technology from local wholesale and retail building product suppliers and highlight the work of local non-profit organizations that focus on improving housing conditions for City residents.

Building Safety Month, founded by the International Code Council, is celebrated by jurisdictions worldwide during the month of May. Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures.
