City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities invites the public to a free Open House on Saturday, April 18, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jerome “Buddie” Ford Nature Center, 5750 Sanger Ave. All ages are welcome to celebrate Earth Day at the Nature Center with free activities including educational exhibits, animal feedings and short presentations throughout the day. This is a drop-in event and registration is not required.
Naturalists from the Nature Center will also be taking part in the Alexandria Earth Day celebration taking place on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ben Brenman Park, 4800 Brenman Park Dr.
Jerome “Buddie” Ford Nature Center provides year-round programs and exhibits on Alexandria’s human and natural history. The Nature Center is home to more than 30 live animals; interpretive exhibits on local geology, prehistory and history; mounted animals including a black bear, bobcat, turkey and red fox; as well as a tropical forest greenhouse. The center is open Wednesdays through Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 5 p.m. (April through October) and is located next to the Dora Kelley Nature Park.
