[Archived] Community to Help Youth Stride Towards Success with ‘Walk in the Park’

For Immediate Release: April 15, 2015

On Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 8 a.m., Project Discovery Alexandria is inviting the community to come out and kick off spring with its 19th Annual Project Discovery Walkathon at Fort Ward Park in Alexandria, VA.

All proceeds from the Walkathon support Project Discovery Alexandria.

This year's honorary Walkathon co-chairs are Kristen Wright, NBC News 4 reporter, and Brooke Sydnor Curran, founder & president, RunningBrooke.

Project Discovery Alexandria is a college access program that helps low-income students become the first members of their families to attend college or technical school. The program offers workshops, college trips and enrichment experiences. Students learn how to achieve educational goals, select a college, manage time, improve study skills and apply for financial aid.

In 2014, 91 percent of graduating seniors who participated in Project Discovery continued their education at two- or four-year colleges, universities or technical schools.

Donations may be sent to the Alexandria Office of Youth Services at 1900 N. Beauregard Street, Ste. 300, Alexandria, VA 22311, or made via the Project Discovery Walkathon donation page.
