[Archived] Sheriff’s Office, Accreditation Assessors Seek Public Comment on April 14

The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office is seeking re-accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), an international organization facilitating the pursuit of law enforcement excellence. As part of its re-accreditation process, the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office is asking for comments from interested community members during its on-site assessment. A team of assessors from CALEA will arrive on Sunday, April 12, and will remain on-site until Wednesday, April 15, to examine aspects of the Office’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services related to law enforcement.

As part of the on-site assessment, the assessors invite community members and agency employees to offer comments at a public meeting on Tuesday, April 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Alexandria Courthouse, 520 King Street, in the Grenadier Room. Those unable to attend the public meeting, but wishing to provide comment may call the assessment team on Monday, April 13, between 3 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. at 703.746.4395, or mail comments to CALEA, 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 20155.

CALEA first accredited the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office in July 1990. The Office has been re-accredited every term since then, most recently in 2012.

The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the City’s Human Rights Code and the Americans with Disabilities Act. To request a reasonable accommodation or materials in an alternative format, call Bernard Baldwin at 703.746.5011 (Virginia Relay 711).
