[Archived] City of Alexandria Recognizes National Safe Place Week

For Immediate Release: March 15, 2015

The City of Alexandria recognizes National Safe Place Week, March 15-21, with daily themed activities at Safe Place sites to raise awareness about the issues youth face and the resources available to youth in Alexandria. Themed activities include informative presentations to youth enrolled in the Out of School Time Programs, creating videos about the importance of Safe Place, wearing Safe Place yellow to show support, making crafts using selfies with Safe Place displays, and using social media with hashtag #NSPWeek2015 to share the results of the week’s activities.

Safe Place is a national organization that brings together community resources to provide immediate help and safety to teens facing abuse, neglect, bullying or other crisis situations. The Alexandria Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Department is a licensed Safe Place agency with 23 designated Safe Place sites, where trained staff are available to assist youth by locating needed services in crisis situations. To request assistance, youth may visit designated Safe Place sites, call the 24-hour hotline at 703.746.5400 or text “SAFE” and their current location to 69866.
