[Archived] Mitchell C. Bernstein Named Alexandria’s Acting Director of Project Implementation

Mitch Bernstein imageActing City Manager Mark Jinks has announced the appointment of Mitchell C. Bernstein as Acting Director of Project Implementation for the City of Alexandria, effective January 5, 2015. Bernstein succeeds Emily Baker, who is serving as Acting Deputy City Manager. 

"Mitch has extensive experience in project implementation with the City and outside agencies,” said Jinks. “His leadership will ensure that City projects continue to stay on track.”

Bernstein joined the City in 2006 as a Senior Civil Engineer in the Construction Management and Inspections Division of the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services. In that position, he was responsible for the successful design and construction of several of the City’s most prominent capital projects, including the Contrabands and Freedmen Cemetery Memorial. For the past year, he has served as Division Chief of Design in the Department of Project Implementation.

Prior to his work in Alexandria, Bernstein worked for 22 years at various consulting firms in the Washington, D.C., area.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech and has been a licensed Professional Engineer since 1989.
