Winter Warmer Teas with Martha Washington

Enjoy an 18^th-century tea with friends!

The next Winter Warmer Tea of 2015 features tea with Martha Washington on Sunday, February 8 in Gadsby’s Tavern Restaurant.  Enjoy the warmth and hospitality of Gadsby’s Tavern, sip a special blend of tea from Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, “take” a cup of American Heritage Chocolate, and eat period-inspired delicacies, both sweet and savory, with your 21^st-century friends and hostess Martha Washington.  This is the part of a series of teas featuring history-making women.  All are Sundays from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Gadsby’s Tavern Restaurant, 138 North Royal Street. The final tea in the series will be Sunday, March 22: Rebecca Ramsay Reese (20^th-century preservationist in honor of Women’s History Month)

As America began as a nation during the late 18^th century and emerged in the 19^th century, Gadsby’s Tavern was the center of social and political life in Alexandria as well as the new Federal City of Washington. The tavern served as the premier gathering place for residents – including George Washington – and visitors to eat, drink, learn, and influence history.  Tavern keepers John Wise and John Gadsby hosted balls, performances, and meetings, and their accommodations were known as the best by travelers near and far.
