Blues in the Community - “Blues Babies”

Treat your Valentine to heartfelt lyrics and soul-stirring melodies.  Enjoy an afternoon of live music interwoven with multi-media and storytelling at the Alexandria Black History Museum, 902 Wythe Street, Alexandria, VA.  This FREE program, from 12:30 to 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, explores the modernization of the Blues and its influence upon Jazz, Gospel, Rhythm & Blues, Rock & Roll, Soul, Soul Blues, and other related music genre. David B. Cole, musician and educator, entertains with this signature-style, American music while he informs listeners about its immergence and progression.

Cole is a native Washingtonian, and he shares his expertise and love of the Blues by combining his guitar music with engaging vocals. His talents as a musician and educator elevate the Blues as one of America's great cultural treasures. His most recently-released CD is “Urban Blues.”

"He's a musician’s musician," says saxophonist and educator Davey Yarborough, who praises Cole's "attention to stylistic detail." Paul Carr, a master of the sax says of Cole, "There's a whole party goin' on inside his guitar case."

David Cole is currently a member of the Main Street Blues as well as the Capital All-Stars, the big band led by the legendary Bobby Felder. He has played around the world with some of the top names in Blues, Jazz and R&B, including Percy Sledge, Archie Bell, Little Royal, Regina Bell, the Delfonics, Roberta Flack, The Jewels, The Orioles, Davey Yarborough and Esther Williams, Dick Smith and many others.

His upcoming performances include the MidAtlantic Jazz Festival on February 13 and Bessie's Blues at Metro Stage, now through March 6.
