[Archived] Alexandria Black History Museum to Host Kwanzaa Celebration Program

The museum’s annual program explores the history and significance of Kwanzaa. Learn about the principles of Kwanzaa, a seven-day cultural celebration that begins December 26 and ends January 1, and find out how to incorporate it into your holiday season. The program will be produced by Culture Kingdom Kids™. Jessica Smith, Director of Culture Kingdom Kids and a Kwanzaa expert, will lead participants in learning fun ways to celebrate the seven days of Kwanzaa through a variety of creative
games, interactive songs, dances, and hands-on crafts.

Culture Kingdom Kids™ is an educational arts company that produces children’s programs that celebrate African-American culture. Since 2010, Culture Kingdom Kids has promoted cultural pride, heritage and awareness values through fun and interactive performances and workshops at schools, festivals, community centers, and museums. In 2011, Culture Kingdom Kids founder and owner, Jessica Smith received the Africa Showcase Award for Excellence In Children’s Cultural Programs for her work with Culture Kingdom Kids. In 2012, Smith was recognized as one of the Forty UNDER 40 by the Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund for having made exceptional contributions in Education through her work with Culture Kingdom Kids™.  In 2014, Jessica Smith was invited to Ghana to share her teaching techniques with African educators. Culture Kingdom Kids programs have been featured at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, and Busboys and Poets Cafes. The Alexandria Black History Museum is located at 902 Wythe Street in Alexandria's Parker-Gray Historic District and is open from Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Patrons needing special accommodation must notify the museum two weeks prior to the event.  The Museum is within walking distance of the Braddock Road Metro Station on the Yellow and Blue Lines.  For more information, please visit www.alexblackhistory.org
