[Archived] Alexandria Citizen Corps Council Hosts Community Preparedness and Awareness Forum

As part of National Preparedness Month and Be Ready, Alexandria, the Alexandria Citizen Corps Council is hosting a public community preparedness forum on Saturday, September 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at George Washington Middle School Cafeteria, 1005 Mount Vernon Ave.

The theme of the forum is the First 72 (Hours) On You.  The purpose of the forum is to raise awareness and collaboration among Alexandria residents and community leaders to prepare for natural and/or man-made disasters. Experts warn that the first 72 hours after a natural or man-made emergency will be a critical period to prepare as first responders may be overwhelmed in the immediate aftermath of an emergency.

The Citizen Corps Council will welcome Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille, the Office of Emergency Management, Health Department, Police Department, Animal Shelter and Volunteer Alexandria to speak on a variety of perspectives about the threats we face in our community and how to prepare for them.

For more information, please contact Michelle McQueeney, Chair, Citizen Corps Council at michelle.mcqueeney@mac.com , Rob Rapanut, Citizen Association Representative, Citizen Corps Council at robierap@aol.com or Mark Penn, City of Alexandria Emergency Management Coordinator at 703.736.5256.
