Sunday, November 23 Jefferson Salon and Madeira Tasting
Mr. Thomas Jefferson, portrayed by Colonial Williamsburg’s Bill Barker, is visiting Alexandria to announce a project he has taken up since leaving the presidency. In honor of this visit, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is hosting two opportunities to meet Mr. Jefferson.
On Saturday, November 22 celebrate Mr. Jefferson’s arrival with a banquet and ball. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a period-inspired banquet, and then guests proceed to the ball at 8:00 p.m. to enjoy English country dancing with live music, dessert, gaming, and a cash bar. Regency costume suggested; cocktail attire encouraged. Tickets for Mr. Jefferson’s Banquet and Ball are $120, $45 for ball only.
Participants can prepare for the ball with instruction from dance master Corky Palmer on Thursday evenings on November 6, 13, and 20 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Learn the basic steps of English country dancing for $12 per class or $30 for the series.
In addition, on Sunday, November 23 enjoy an afternoon of conversation with Mr. Jefferson as you taste period food paired with a historic Madeira—a special blend created by The Rare Wine Company based on Jefferson’s notes. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. and tickets are $45 per person inclusive. Want to stay for dinner at Gadsby’s Tavern Restaurant? In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Gadsby’s Tavern was the center of social and political life in Alexandria and the new Federal City of Washington. The tavern served as the premier gathering place for residents – including George Washington – and visitors to eat, drink, learn, and influence history. Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. For more information, please visit www.gadsbystavern.org.
