[Archived] City of Alexandria to Host the National “Pink Heals” Tour Sunday, September 7

For Immediate Release: September 3, 2014

On Sunday, September 7, firefighters, police officers, and deputy sheriffs will join the Pink Heals Tour as part of a national campaign supporting women who are battling cancer. The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the 100 block of N. Royal Street, from King to Cameron Streets.

The motto of the Pink Heals Tour is “Supporting Women, Raising Awareness.” The focus of the group is on women survivors; however, support is given to everyone battling all types of cancers. Love and hope are the two virtues guiding the organization, sharing their brand and mission to residents all across the country, inspiring people and honoring the women who have fought the cancer battle.

The event will feature pink fire engines, fire trucks, and police cruisers. Local firefighters, police officers, and deputy sheriffs will don pink t-shirts to show solidarity during the event. Local residents who have been affected by cancer will have a chance to autograph or sign the pink vehicles.

Attendees are encouraged to support local cancer-related organizations, such as the Inova Alexandria Hospital Foundation’s Vola Lawson Breast Cancer Memorial Fund, which provides free mammograms to uninsured Alexandria women.

T-shirts will be available for sale at the event. For more information about the Tour, visit www.pinkhealsva.org/the-tour-comes-to-va-2014.html.
