[Archived] Director of Human Resources Bettina A. Deynes Resigns to Accept New Position

Alexandria Director of Human Resources Bettina A. Deynes Resigns to Accept New Position

For Immediate Release: August 25, 2014

City Manager Rashad M. Young has announced that Bettina A. Deynes, Director of Human Resources, will resign effective September 10 to become the Vice President of Human Resources for the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM).  SHRM is the world’s largest human resources membership organization, with 275,000 members in over 160 countries.

“Bettina has made significant contributions to the City’s human resources programs,” said Young.  “She has helped modernize our approaches to key workforce issues and strengthened our organization through sound policies and best practices.”

Deynes joined the City in 2012.  Since that time, she has led a comprehensive review and update of the City’s human resources procedures, implemented a performance-based compensation approach for senior executives, overseen major changes to health insurance benefits to control costs for employees and taxpayers, guided several departmental reorganizations and key staff recruitments, and upgraded human resources staff positions.

“I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish during my time in Alexandria,” said Deynes.  “Although I’m excited about a new challenge, I will miss the wonderful group of friends and colleagues I have here.”

The City will launch a nationwide search for a new director, and an acting director will be announced by the City Manager at a later time.
