For Immediate Release: March 31, 2014
City Manager Rashad M. Young has announced that Director of Planning and Zoning Faroll Hamer will retire from her position on July 3.
“Faroll has been an indispensable part of our team,” said Young. “Her leadership, advocacy for quality planning and design, and commitment to our city has been exemplary. Her work has yielded results that will benefit Alexandrians for generations to come.”
Hamer, who joined the City in 2007, has been responsible for directing the City’s strategic growth, creating choices for housing and transportation, providing neighborhood benefits and amenities, and overseeing implementation to ensure consistency with approved plans.
“I feel very fortunate to have been a part of this community, and to have participated with City staff, residents, and businesses in the process of shaping our future,” said Hamer. “It has been a pleasure to work in a city where planning and design is understood and valued.”
The City will launch a nationwide search for a new planning director, and an acting director will be announced by the City Manager at a later time.
