[Archived] Alexandria Police Arrest Copper Thieves

The Alexandria Police Department has arrested William Bauckman, 30, of, Fairfax City, and Sean Griffin, 31, of Fairfax, for a series of copper thefts that occurred in Alexandria during April and May 2014.

Police Department crime analysts and detectives identified Bauckman’s connection to one copper theft and were then able to link him to the other thefts. Bauckman was arrested on May 9, 2014, and charged with six counts of Grand Larceny. Griffin was arrested on June 9, 2014, and charged with Grand Larceny and Grand Larceny with Intent to Sell.

Police remind residents that while these two suspects have been arrested, it is very easy for thieves to access copper gutters and downspouts. Remember to call the Alexandria Police Department at 703.746.4444 when observing suspicious behavior around gutters or roofs; do not assume the person belongs there.

Police ask that anyone with information about these suspects contact Detective Michael Whelan at 703.746. 6228.
