[Archived] West End Transitway (Corridor C) Alternatives Analysis/Environmental Assessment Kick-Off Meeting to be Held May 22

The public is invited to the West End Transitway (Corridor C) Alternatives Analysis/Environmental Assessment kick-off meeting on Thursday, May 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. The meeting will be held at Landmark Mall, 5801 Duke Street (the meeting room can be accessed via the second-level parking deck entrance). This event will be held as an open house, and participants may come and go during this time to learn about the Transitway.

The proposed Transitway system along the Van Dorn/Beauregard corridor will provide a robust high-capacity transit option between the Van Dorn Metrorail station, Shirlington Transit Center, and the Pentagon using a combination of dedicated and shared lanes.

Over the next 18 months, the City of Alexandria will 1) examine a range of transit alternatives (an alternatives analysis) and 2) document the effects of the alternatives on the human and natural environments (an environmental assessment). The process will include several opportunities for residents and other stakeholders to learn more and provide input.

The alternatives analysis will prepare the project for federal funding through the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Small Starts program. The environmental assessment is being conducted in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), as amended with FTA as the lead agency and the City of Alexandria as the project sponsor.
