[Archived] Absentee Voting Opens for Eligible City Voters on April 25


On Tuesday, June 10, there will be a Democratic Primary for U.S. House of Representatives, 8th Congressional District. Absentee voting for the Primary begins on Friday, April 25. Many Alexandria voters are eligible to vote absentee, but relatively few take advantage of this option. The voter registration deadline for this election is May 19. If you are not already registered at your current address, you may do so online at vote.virginia.gov, or call 703.746.4050. A few clicks, and you’re done.

What’s on the Ballot?

Ten people are seeking the Democratic nomination for House of Representatives. They are (in ballot order):

There is no Republican Primary this June. Instead, the Republican Party will hold nominating conventions.


Absentee Voting in Person

The deadline for voting absentee in person is Saturday, June 7, at 5 p.m. In-person absentee voting hours and locations are as follows:

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (closed Monday, May 26)

Extended hours for in-person absentee voting:

Wednesday, May 28      8 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, May 29          8 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 31           8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Monday, June 2             8 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, June 3           8 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, June 7           8 a.m. - 5 p.m.


Absentee Voting By Mail

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is Tuesday, June 3. Applications must be received in the Voter Registration Office by 5 p.m. on that day. Absentee ballot applications are available online at alexandriava.gov/Elections, or by contacting the Alexandria Voter Registration Office at 703.746.4050. Completed (signed) absentee applications can be submitted in person or by mail to the Voter Registration Office (address below); or can be sent by fax (703.838.6449), or scanned email attachment to VoteAbsentee@alexandriava.gov.

Mailed absentee ballots must be received by the Voter Registration Office no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, June 10. Mail ballots to the Office of Voter Registration and Elections, 132 N. Royal St. #100, Alexandria, VA 22314.
