[Archived] War of 1812 Bicentennial Lecture-May 28

Through the Perilous Fight with author Steve Vogel, Wednesday, May 28 7:30-8:30 PM

War_of_1812_logoJournalist and author Steve Vogel presents Through the Perilous Flight on Wednesday, May 28 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Lyceum, 201 S. Washington Street.

This lecture, co-sponsored by the Alexandria Historical Society and the Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum, explores the weeks leading up to and immediately following the battle at Fort McHenry.  With the British succeeding in the burning of Washington, the fate of the United States was uncertain and the events of these few weeks in 1814 would decide the country’s future.

Steve Vogel is the author of Through the Perilous Fight and The Pentagon: A History, both published by Random House.  A veteran journalist for the Washington Post, he focuses on military affairs and his reporting made him a finalist for the 2002 Pulitzer Prize.

This lecture is the final of a larger War of 1812 lecture series and part of the City of Alexandria’s commemoration of the War of 1812.  Flag Day, June 14, 2014, kicks off the final Star-Spangled Summer for the region, featuring free specialty tours, concerts, and a film series.  The summer culminates in a free Signature Event in Waterfront Park on Sunday, August 31, 2014 from noon—5 p.m.

Cost is $5 per person; free for Alexandria Historical Society members. To purchase tickets, visit the online shop or call 703.746.4994.
