Suspected Arsonist Arrested in Alexandria

Following a 10-month investigation by Alexandria Fire Department fire marshals and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), an arrest has been made in connection with a series of fires in the Southern Towers apartment complex in Alexandria. Shirley Ann Vigneau, a 73-year-old resident of 4901 Seminary Road, was taken into custody on the evening of March 19, 2014.

Vigneau is also under investigation in connection with more than two dozen other suspected arson-related fires on the property.  These incidents have resulted in approximately $50,000 in fire and smoke damage. There were no injuries reported, but these fires caused extensive fear and anxiety among residents of the complex.
