[Archived] Montgomery Park Improvements to Begin Week of March 17

For Immediate Release: March 17, 2014

Buchanan Partners, developers for the Harris Teeter Development, will begin park improvements at Montgomery Park, 901 North Royal St., beginning the week of March 17 weather permitting. Park improvements are scheduled to be completed in mid-May, and the dog park will close during construction. For other City Dog Park locations, visit alexandriava.gov/Dogs.

Montgomery Park improvements include a 2,500 square foot expansion, new access gates, fencing and new site furnishings including a dog water fountain and benches to the existing dog park. Additional park improvements include new tree and shrub plantings, irrigation system, new park access from Fairfax St. and updated park signage.

The improvements are a requirement of the Harris Teeter Development Special Use Permit Condition #108, and were determined during the development review process and at the Planning Commission and City Council public hearings of June 25, 2011. The specific park improvements required in Condition #108 originated from a community driven park plan. Condition #108 can be viewed by visiting http://dockets.alexandriava.gov/fy11/062511ph/di13.pdf. Montgomery Park improvements are required to be fulfilled prior to the release of the certificate of occupancy.
