[Archived] Craig T. Fifer Named Alexandria’s Acting Director of Communications and Public Information

For Immediate Release: February 25, 2014

City Manager Rashad M. Young has announced the appointment of Craig T. Fifer as Acting Director of Communications and Public Information for the City of Alexandria, effective February 26, 2014.  Fifer succeeds Tony M. Castrilli, who has accepted the position of Director of Public Affairs for Fairfax County.

"Craig brings more than 20 years of public service to this position, and has helped drive Alexandria’s award-winning use of communications and technology," said City Manager Young.  "As a longtime Alexandria resident and member of the City’s senior management team, I’m confident in his ability to lead Alexandria’s communications as we begin the search for a permanent director."

Fifer joined the City of Alexandria in 2003 as E-Government Manager, and became Deputy Director of Communications and Public Information in 2010.  He has extensive experience in routine and crisis communications, media relations, e-government, public policy, budget and program management, and staff supervision.  Prior to his work in Alexandria, he served for seven years as the webmaster and electronic communications coordinator for the City of Roanoke.  He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Virginia Tech, and a master's degree in public administration from George Mason University.
