[Archived] UPDATE: Police Arrest Suspect in Post Office Robbery

Alexandria Police have charged Darryl Franks, 58, of Washington D.C., with Robbery in connection to the January 10, 2014, robbery of a U.S. Post Office. Franks was arrested in Washington D.C. on February 10, 2014, and is awaiting extradition.

Police Investigate Robbery at U.S. Post Office

Alexandria Police and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service are conducting a joint investigation into a robbery that occurred at a U.S. Post Office in the 1900 block of Mount Vernon Avenue.  Around 4:15 P.M. on Friday, January 10, a man entered the post office and implied that he had a weapon.  He demanded money and fled after receiving currency. No one was injured.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’8” to 5’10” with a thin build.  The suspect was wearing a black mask, green military style jacket, and red or brown utility pants.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect who robbed this post office. Call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 1.877.876.2455 (select Option 2). All information will be kept confidential.
