[Archived] King Street Bike Lanes Project Update

The next monthly Traffic and Parking Board meeting will include a staff update on the installation of bike lanes on King Street between West Cedar Street and Janney’s Lane, and will take place on Monday, January 27 at 7:30 p.m., in Council Chambers (2nd floor of City Hall), 301 King St. This meeting is open to the public.

Based upon additional requests for clarification of the process for appealing the Director’s decision to install the bike lanes, the City Attorney has recommended that the City follow City Code Section 10-2-8. Although there is no direct procedural device that provides for an appeal, this section of the City Code has been deemed applicable.

During the Traffic and Parking Board meeting on Monday, February 24, there will be a public hearing pursuant to City Code Section 10-2-8 as part of a review of the T&ES Director’s decision to install the bike lanes between West Cedar Street and Janney’s Lane. The Traffic and Parking Board will make a recommendation to the Alexandria City Council about that decision after that hearing.

This recommendation will then be considered by the Alexandria City Council at the Saturday, March 15 public hearing.

Persons interested in speaking at the Traffic and Parking Board’s regular meeting need to fill out a speaker form, prior to the beginning of the meeting. Forms and all meeting materials may be obtained from the Traffic and Parking Board website.
