[Archived] City of Alexandria Winter Weather Update

All City of Alexandria government offices and facilities will close to the public at 3 p.m. today, January 21, due to winter weather. All meetings scheduled for tonight have been cancelled or postponed.  For more information, visit alexandriava.gov/Storm.

The City of Alexandria remains under  a Winter Storm Warning until 11 p.m. tonight, with subfreezing temperatures expected overnight. With the heaviest snowfall expected during the afternoon commute, residents are asked to carefully consider their personal safety before attempting to travel, to avoid dangerous driving conditions or becoming stranded.

Other tips for “weathering the storm:”

City Parking Lot Early Closures 

On Tuesday, January 21, City-owned parking garages will close early. Courthouse Garage (111 S. Pitt St.) will close at 11 p.m. Union Street Garage (220 N. Union St.) will close at 11 p.m. Market Square Garage (108 N. Fairfax St.) will close at midnight. In the event that your car is parked in the garage after closing, please call 877.385.4113 and staff will open the garage to release your vehicle.

City-owned surface parking lots will not permit overnight parking Tuesday night, to allow crews to plow, including lots at 517 Cameron St., 120 N. Patrick St., and 112 S. Henry St.

All City-owned parking facilities will reopen Wednesday, January 22, at their regularly scheduled time. For more information, contact Republic Parking at 703.549.3237.
