For Immediate Release: December 20, 2013
Contractors for the City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities will be on site on-or-about January 6, 2014 through January 10, 2014 to obtain soil samples at Beverley Park, located at 620 North Overlook Dr. Specialized vehicle-mounted equipment will perform the work. For safety reasons, the work will require that some areas of the park, including the playground be closed intermittently during the on-site work. The on-site work is weather permitting, will occur during daylight hours and is anticipated to take approximately two days.
Soil sampling is a part of conducting a geotechnical and engineering assessment of the park, including the hillside adjacent to the playground. In addition, the assessment will evaluate the park’s trees, subgrade, and topographic conditions as an initial step related to future renovation of the playground and other park features. This assessment work is anticipated to be complete in the spring 2014.
