[Archived] Alexandria Police Investigate Robbery at Virginia Commerce Bank on Duke Street

Alexandria Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred at the Virginia Commerce Bank, located at 5140 Duke Street. On Friday, December 13, around 10:41 a.m., the suspect entered the bank. He handed the teller a note that implied a weapon and demanded money. The teller relinquished an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled the bank. No one was injured.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’5” to 5’8” with a thin to average build. He was last seen wearing a black mask and construction attire: a neon yellow jacket and a white hard hat with the word “JOY” on the front of the hat. There was a covered emblem on the front of his jacket. The suspect was also wearing beige/khaki pants, black work boots and black gloves.

Anyone with information about the robbery or who recognizes the suspect in the surveillance photos is asked to call Detective Amy Santiago at 703.746.6289. Detectives would like to remind witnesses that they can remain anonymous.
