[Archived] City of Alexandria Office of the Arts to Host Art Panel Discussion in Development of a Citywide Public Art Master Plan

For Immediate Release: November 13, 2013

The City of Alexandria Office of the Arts will host a public art panel discussion on Wednesday, November 20 at 7 p.m. at the Alexandria Black History Museum, 902 Wythe St., to coincide with the development of a citywide public art master plan.  Refreshments will be served.

The panel, led by Deirdre Ehlan MacWilliams, will discuss the award-winning, temporary public art event 5x5, launched in Washington, DC in 2012. Part of the DC Creates Public Art Program, 5x5 was developed to realize the recommendation of temporary exhibitions of artwork in public spaces on a regular basis and offers the City an opportunity to use art as a tool to activate and enliven publicly accessible spaces.

Also on panel is Laura Roulet who worked with artists Ben Ashworth, The Floating Lab Collective, Charles Juhasz-Alvarado, Patrick McDonough, and Wilmer Wilson IV to curate Activate => Participate.

For more information about the lecture or the public art master plan, contact Diane Ruggiero, Deputy Director, Office of the Arts, at 703.746.5590 or diane.ruggiero@alexandriava.gov.
