Two Alarm Apartment Fire Displaces Two Residents.

WHEN:           October 31, 2013  

WHERE:         300 block of Yoakum Parkway  

WHO:             Alexandria Fire Department  

WHAT:           On October 31 at 3:11 pm the Alexandria Fire Department, assisted by Arlington and Fairfax County Fire Departments responded to a high rise apartment building in the 300 block of Yoakum Parkway for a two alarm apartment fire.   The initial 911 call reported a fire alarm sounding in the building.  Subsequent calls reported smoke conditions on the 10th floor of the building.  First arriving firefighters found a fire in a 10th floor apartment and requested a second alarm to support firefighting activities.  Firefighters brought the fire under control shortly after 4pm.   

All residents of the apartment building successfully evacuated the building.  There were no reported injuries.  

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  Damage estimates were not made available at this time.  Two occupants of the apartment where the fire started were displaced and received assistance from the Red Cross.
