[Archived] City of Alexandria to Hold Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Open Space Property at 5325 Polk Ave. on Saturday, June 15

For Immediate Release: June 7, 2014

The City of Alexandria invites the public to join Mayor William D. Euille and members of the City Council to celebrate and explore the City’s most recent open space acquisition at 5325 Polk Ave. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June15 at 8 a.m. with the ribbon cutting and official remarks at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will be followed by a community sponsored walk and “spruce-up” of the site.

The City acquired this wooded natural area in December 2012. The City’s purchase of this 2.34 acre property used the $1.5 million provided by the Department of Defense to mitigate loss of open space in the West End, as well as $0.4 million in City Open Space funds. The Park and Recreation Commission will consider plans for the future of this new natural area at its July meeting.
