[Archived] Update: Two Alarm House Fire that Injured a Firefighter is Deemed Accidental.

WHO: Alexandria Fire Department

WHAT: Fire investigators have determined the cause of this morning’s fire to be accidental in nature. Preliminary damage estimate is $60,000.

On May 20, 2013 at 11:37am the Alexandria Fire Department responded to a two story residential home in the 800 block of Chalfonte Drive for a report of smoke coming from the rear of the home. Arriving firefighters discovered a fire in the basement which had extended to the first floor. A request for a second alarm to assist with the fire was made shortly thereafter. The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes of the first alarm. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Approximately 50 firefighters were involved in fighting the fire. The incident displaced two residents of the home.
