The Alexandria Fund for Human Services (AFHS) awards funding through a competitive process to organizations providing human services to Alexandria residents. The AFHS allows the City to support human service programs vital to meeting the needs of our community with broadly defined service priorities for young children, youth, immigrants, the elderly and persons with disabilities. AFHS is the umbrella fund that coordinates grants and special initiatives for the Community Partnership Fund and the Children and Youth Fund. Although the funds have different priorities and allocations, together they help ensure that the City’s most vulnerable residents will be served.
Only private non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible to apply for funding through the AFHS Community Partnership Fund. Any organization, public or private, for-profit or non-profit 501(c)(3), is eligible to apply for funding through the Children’s Priority or Youth Priority.

All proposals must be transmitted electronically using the application on the AFHS webpage. Proposals may not be delivered by any other means. Successful applicants will be notified by May 31, 2013.
A pre-proposal conference will be held on Thursday, February 28 at 1 p.m. at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson Street, Alexandria, Virginia, 22314. This session will cover AFHS grant opportunities and offer potential applicants an opportunity to ask questions. Attendance is strongly encouraged, particularly for first-time applicants.
