[Archived] City of Alexandria to Conduct Balloon Testing of Potomac Yard Metrorail Location Alternatives

Over the next several weeks, as part of the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station Study process, balloon tests are being conducted. These tests will assist in providing a further understanding of the visual impacts of the proposed three Potomac Yard Metrorail Station location alternatives.

Due to the specific weather conditions needed, the balloon testing is scheduled between November 19 and December 7. During the tests, specialized balloons will be used so photographs and video images can be obtained of each of the alternative station locations. Balloons may be visible above the George Washington Memorial Parkway for approximately one to 1.5 hours while the tests are conducted. Motorists are advised that stopping along the Parkway is prohibited.

If there are any questions about this test or the project, contact Marti Reinfeld, Transportation & Environmental Services Transit Division, at 703.746.4061 or marti.reinfeld@alexandriava.gov. For more information about the Potomac Yard Development project, visit www.alexandriava.gov/PotomacYard
