[Archived] Fire in Apartment Displaces Residents

WHEN: October 22, 2012

WHERE: 500 block of N. Armistead Street

WHO: Alexandria Fire Department

WHAT: At 11:16am firefighters from the Alexandria Fire Department, assisted by Arlington and Fairfax County Fire Departments responded to the 500 block of N. Armistead Street for a report of smoke in a garden apartment building. Arriving units reported light smoke coming from a three story apartment building and immediately requested a second alarm. Firefighters entered an apartment on the second floor and extinguished a fire in the kitchen area. Responding second alarm units were returned prior to their arrival.

The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages. There were no reported injuries. Three occupants of the apartment were relocated due to the fire damage. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental due to a malfunctioning kitchen appliance.
