[Archived] Late Night Train Noise Due to CSX Track Work

The City has received several complaints about train horns being sounded late at night. The noise is related to maintenance work that transportation company CSX is performing on its railroad track between Alexandria and Woodbridge. The horns are part of the federal safety requirements for this work, which being done on Sunday through Thursday nights between 8:30 pm and 4:30 a.m. The entire project will end November 1.

The City has no authority to alter or influence the sounding of horns for rail operations. These safety-based operations are not controlled by local governments, due to interstate commerce regulations.
