The Alexandria Department of Real Estate Assessments has earned one of the nation’s top honors from the International Association of Assessing Officers.
The City was among just 19 jurisdictions nationwide to receive the IAAO’s Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration, a lengthy three month certification process.
“The purpose of the IAAO Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration is to recognize those governmental units utilizing the best appraisal and assessment practices throughout their offices including a strong emphasis on teamwork, accomplishments, and a high level of satisfaction among peers, staff, and constituents,” the IAAO wrote in a letter to the City. “The IAAO Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration is intended for jurisdictions that have developed superior assessment practices for all aspects of their operations.”
“Your commitment has earned you the IAAO Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration from the world’s premiere property appraisal and assessment administration organization,” wrote Debra Asbury, IAAO President.
“The City of Alexandria should be proud of the all the hard work and dedication performed by the Department employees to ensure the tax burden is fairly shared by each taxpayer,” said Bryan Page, the City’s Acting Director of the Department of Real Estate Assessments. “The Department is especially proud as being recognized as one of only nineteen political to jurisdictions nationwide that demonstrate the highest level of managerial and assessment practices in keeping with the guidelines established by the International Association of Assessing Officers.”
To receive the award, he and Timothy Francis, an Appraiser Supervisor, attended the 78th Annual International Conference on Assessment Administration in Kansas City, Missouri from September 9-12.
