City of Alexandria Seeks Public Comment on Proposal to Name the Lee Center Softball Field "The Kelley Cares Miracle Field"

The City of Alexandria is seeking public comment on a proposal to name the Lee Center Softball Field, located at 1108 Jefferson Street, “The Kelley Cares Miracle Field.”  A Miracle Field is a rubberized surface baseball diamond that allows individuals with special needs the opportunity to play outdoor sports in a safe and fun environment. The proposal was forwarded by the Miracle League of Alexandria in response to the Kelley Cares Foundation’s direct support of the City of Alexandria’s therapeutic recreation program over the past several years.

The Kelley Cares Foundation has been instrumental in supporting the needs of the therapeutic recreation community for several years by donating significant funds and equipment to the City for use in the Therapeutic Recreation program.  Through their efforts, the foundation has contributed or fully funded equipment such as a multi-sensory room, a passenger van for the transport of special needs individuals, a mobile multi-sensory lab for use at City schools, and technical equipment to help City residents function better. For additional information on the Kelley Cares Foundation, visit http://www.kelleycares.org.

The public is invited to provide comments on the proposal to name the softball field through Monday, July 23. Those interested in providing comments will be able to record their comments by email to jack.browand@alexandriava.gov, subject line: Kelley Cares Miracle Field, or may be mailed to Recreation and Parks, Attn: Jack Browand, 1108 Jefferson St., Alexandria VA 22314. All comments received or postmarked by Monday, July 23 will be reviewed by the City Council Naming Committee.

For additional information, contact Jack Browand, Division Chief, at 703.746.5504 or by email at jack.browand@alexandriava.gov.
