“A Night at the Races” is the theme for the 9th annual Fostering the Future Cruise to benefit The Fund for Alexandria’s Child, a program to assist children in foster care and those at risk of abuse and neglect. The cruise will be held Friday, June 8 at 8 p.m. aboard the Cherry Blossom paddleboat moored at the City Marina in Old Town Alexandria at Cameron and Union Streets. A dockside reception begins at 7 p.m. with boat departure at 8 p.m.
ABC7/WJLA-TV weekend anchor Autria Godfrey will join Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille in welcoming the guests who will be treated to a full buffet and drinks from Mango Mike’s. Music for dancing will be provided by local favorite Small Town, a classic rock band. The boat will cruise past the monuments before returning to dock at 10 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person (for adults only, please). The cost is tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Don your race day attire and sport your most elegant hat, if you choose. To reserve your space or for more information, call 703.746.5663 or visit https://www.alexandriava.gov/TheFundForAlexChild.
Local restaurants Joe Theismann’s, Evening Star, Chart House, Taqueria Poblano, and Chadwicks are generously donating hors d’oeuvres. Desserts will be provided by Bittersweet and Alexandria Pastry Shop.
All proceeds benefit The Fund for Alexandria’s Child, helping foster children and others at risk of abuse and neglect enjoy the experiences most kids take for granted. One hundred percent of the proceeds of your ticket goes directly to the children for athletic uniforms, class trips, music lessons, karate classes, graduation photographs and more. The program has no overhead or administrative costs.
