[Archived] City Council Adopts Strategic Plan on Aging

The City of Alexandria Strategic Plan on Aging for years 2013-2017 was adopted by the City Council at its regular meeting April 10. This plan, which was drafted with significant City resident input and reviewed by the business and faith communities, volunteer organizations, City staff and experts in the field of aging, and revised to incorporate public feedback and Council Guidance, strives to make Alexandria a livable city for persons of all ages.

As the size of the over-65 population grows in the City as well as in the nation, the Division on Aging and Adult Services spearheaded an effort to assess the needs and desires of older residents and develop a plan to meet those requirements and recommendations. Titled, “The Alexandria of Our Future, A Livable Community for All Ages,” the strategic plan recognizes that older residents are a natural resource whose talents and contributions to the life of the City are fundamental to its health and vitality. It also notes that many attributes making a community more livable for older adults will ultimately enhance its livability for all ages.
