[Archived] Alexandria Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash

Alexandria Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred around 2:28 p.m. on Sunday, January 15.  A 22 year-old Fairfax County man was driving a 1994 Honda Accord westbound on Duke Street approaching the overpass to Interstate 395.  For unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a 31 year-old Lincolnia area woman and her 8 year-old son.  The vehicle continued down an embankment, struck a traffic control box and came to rest against the guardrail along the northbound lanes of I-395.  The 8 year-old suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced at the scene.  The mother was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver remained on the scene and was not injured.


Members of the Crash Reconstruction Team are conducting the investigation.  No charges have been placed at this time.  The investigation continues.
