[Archived] Alexandria Commission on HIV/AIDS Sponsors Screening of “The Other City” for World AIDS Day

• Thursday, December 1, 2011 is World AIDS Day – the 23rd anniversary of this observance.
• World AIDS Day is observed on December 1 each year and is used to raise awareness, commemorate those who have passed on, and celebrate victories such as increased access to treatment and prevention services.
• More than 820 Alexandria residents diagnosed with HIV/AIDS have died to date, and 1,640 known residents are currently living with HIV.

In commemoration of World AIDS Day, the Alexandria Commission on HIV/AIDS and Inova Alexandria Hospital will host a screening of the movie The Other City on Thursday, December 1, starting with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the movie from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Inova Alexandria Hospital, 4320 Seminary Rd. The Other City, a documentary about people struggling with HIV/AIDS in our area, underscores the theme for this year’s observance: Getting to Zero: Zero New HIV Infections, Zero Discrimination and Zero AIDS Related Deaths.
