[Archived] Book Signing November 19 at History Center & Museum Store

Pick Up “George Washington’s Rules of Civility,” Other Great Holiday Gifts

George Washington Rules of CivilityOn Saturday, November 19, author and historian John T. Phillips will be signing copies of his book George Washington’s Rules of Civility from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Historic Alexandria History Center & Museum Store, 101 North Union Street.

As a teenager, George Washington studied the 110 “Rules of Civility,” first drafted in the 16th century, and incorporated them into his relationships and practices throughout his life. In his book, Phillips explores the origins and development of the “Rules of Civility” and in particular, how they influenced Washington and colonial America.

Phillips’ work combines scholarly research with guiding principles that remain relevant today. The book, illustrated with 18th-century prints and bound in leather, makes a great gift for the holidays, new graduate, or history buff.

The History Center & Museum Store, located at the Torpedo Factory arcade along the Alexandria Waterfront, is the perfect place to shop locally this holiday season and find gifts, books and decorative items that reflect Alexandria’s heritage. A hands-on activity for children makes it fun to learn about Alexandria history, too.

The History Center & Museum Store is open Thursdays, 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays, noon to 6 p.m.
