[Archived] Statement by Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille on City Manager Search

The Alexandria City Council has selected a top candidate for the position of City Manager vacated by James K. Hartmann in May 2011, and final negotiations between City Council and the candidate are currently underway. The final selection of the City Manager is subject to City Council approval and the execution of a contract. A special meeting of the Alexandria City Council will be scheduled for Monday, October 24.

City Council has interviewed several outstanding and qualified internal and external candidates for the position. Executive Recruiter Robert J. Burg of Anderson and Associates facilitated the search for a new City Manager.

Chief Financial Officer Bruce E. Johnson, who was not a candidate for the City Manager position, was appointed  Acting City Manager by the City Council in April. Johnson will continue to serve in that capacity until the new City Manager is appointed by City Council, and officially assumes the position.
