[Archived] 'Tea Around Town' Tasting Tour October 23

Afternoon Tour Blends Tea Tastings with History, Customs and Fun

Join the Spice & Tea Exchange of Alexandria on a tasting tour that blends tea and history for a fun and flavorful fall afternoon! On Sunday, October 23, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., tour three history museums around Market Square in Old Town, sampling two different teas from the Spice & Tea Exchange at each.

At the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum, 105-107 South Fairfax Street, learn about the health benefits of tea and see how tea has been used for medicinal purposes over the centuries. At Carlyle House, 121 North Fairfax Street, find out about the significance of tea in international trade and how tea merchants conducted business in the 18th century. At Gadsby's Tavern Museum, 134 North Royal Street, discover how hot beverages like tea and coffee were important to taverns and travelers – and enjoy a special frozen treat provided by the Dairy Godmother that John Gadsby might have served, thanks to his ice well! At each museum, tour visitors will also receive a sample of tea from the Spice & Tea Exchange to take home.

Tickets are $30 per adult and $20 per child (5-12), with a $5 discount per person for tickets purchased before October 20. Tickets may be purchased online at www.gadsbystavern.org or by calling 703.746.4242
