[Archived] Alexandria Police Charge City Employee with Embezzlement

Alexandria Police detectives, in cooperation with officials from the City of Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, began an investigation into allegations of embezzlement involving an employee at the Chinquapin Recreation Center. Information received by the police department indicated that the employee had been taking money from the cash register while he worked the front desk.  The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of Addo Lomotey, 48, a City resident.  He has been charged with one count of Felony Embezzlement by a Government Official and is being held at the Adult Detention Center on a $5,000 secured bond.

Lomotey, a City employee for over 4 years, has been placed on administrative leave without pay. The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is conducting its own administrative inquiry in conjunction with the criminal investigation being conducted by Alexandria Police, and is currently reviewing the City’s current cash handling policies and procedures for the recreation centers.
