[Archived] Alexandria Police Charge City Employee with Embezzlement

Alexandria Police detectives, in cooperation with officials from the City of Alexandria’s Department of Human Resources, began an investigation into allegations of embezzlement involving a Human Resources employee.  Information received by the police department indicated that the employee had been taking unearned overtime pay from the City.  The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of Jeffrey Power, 44, of Springfield, Virginia.  He has been charged with one count of Felony Embezzlement.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.

Power, a City employee for nearly 11 years, has been placed on administrative leave without pay. The Department of Human Resources is conducting its own administrative inquiry in conjunction with the criminal investigation being conducted by Alexandria Police, and has instituted a strict overtime and compensatory time approval procedure.
