[Archived] Eighteenth-Century Dance Classes at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum Begin July 28

In Gadsby’s Tavern Museum’s historic ballroom, learn the dances of Jane Austen’s time – danced by Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Dance master Corky Palmer will lead a fun and educational series of 18th-century English country dance classes in preparation for the annual Jane Austen Ball on Saturday, August 13.

Dance classes will be held at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, 134 North Royal Street, on Thursdays, July 28, August 4 and August 11, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Singles or couples are welcome at this beginner-level series.

The cost for lessons is $30 for the series or $12 per class. Reservations are requested and can be made by calling 703.746.4242 or though the online shop at www.gadsbystavern.org.

In the late 18^th and early 19^th centuries, Gadsby’s Tavern was the center of social and political life in Alexandria and the new Federal City of Washington.  The tavern served as the premier gathering place for residents – including George Washington – and visitors to eat, drink, learn, and influence history. Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria.
